The Windows 11 22H2 update is due on September 20: What should we expect

Windows 11 Update

Microsoft will release Windows 11 22H2 on September 20. Microsoft sources tell The Verge Windows 11 22H2 will be released via Windows Update on September 20, a week following the company’s Patch Tuesday fixes.

Windows Central published the 22H2 release date today after I disclosed September 20th intentions last week.

Windows 11 22H2 has been in testing for months and will include programme folders in the Start menu, drag-and-drop on the taskbar, and new touch gestures and animations. Microsoft is also integrating Live Captions to 22H2, which is perfect for deaf, hard-of-hearing, or anyone who wishes to caption audio automatically. 22H2 has a new Voice Access capability to control PCs with voice commands.

The Task Manager in Windows 11 22H2 has a new dark mode, nicer layout, and an efficiency option to restrict app resource usage. Snap Layouts will be improved in 22H2, making it easier to drag an app to show all the available layouts.

Microsoft will add tabs to File Explorer after September 20. According to Windows Central, a 22H2 upgrade with File Explorer tabs and Suggested Actions is scheduled for later this year. Testers can install Windows 11 22H2 early if they desire.

What’s in Windows 11 22H2?

Ain’t much. Last year’s switch from Windows 10 to Windows 11 was a huge upheaval. The most visible change in 22H2 will be the overhauled File Explorer, which gets tabs to resemble the macOS Finder—though this feature may not make the Sept. 20 release.

Start menu icon folders, Taskbar drag-and-drop New accessibility features include live captions for PC audio and improved Voice Access. Keyboard shortcuts will improve Snap Layouts.

With the upgrade, tablets will be able to slide from the taskbar to access the Start menu and Quick Settings. Widgets will get additional sports, finance, and news alerts.

Microsoft’s major update schedule is once a year, however significant changes can arrive mid-cycle. New Media Player, Paint, Phone Link, Photos, and Weather apps were added to Windows 11 without a big update. These may be more important to users than 22H2 updates.
