Review of the Google Pixel Buds Pro: Best AirPod alternative for Android?

Pixel Bud Pro

Google’s Pixel Buds Pro may fly under the radar while Sony, Bose, Sennheiser, and Cambridge Audio steal the spotlight in our best wireless earbuds and best noise-canceling earbuds roundups. Google’s Pro-suffixed stance could change that.

Nobody can knock the Google Pixel Buds Pro for useful and unexpected perks: ANC, wearer detection, a dedicated app and multipoint technology with automatic audio switching (so the Pixel Buds Pro can stay connected to two different devices simultaneously and switch easily between them), a 31-hour battery life when listening without ANC and combined with the charging case (which can be charged wirelessly), Google Assistant support and customizability. They’re Android AirPods Pro rivals on paper.

Our Google Pixels Buds Pro review says they’re worth it for noise cancellation and transparency. On-device touch-controls work well, and the in-app user experience (much of our testing happens on a Google Pixel 6 Pro smartphone; there’s no iOS version) is pleasurable.

In a Nutshell

If you don’t have much time, I’ll give you a quick summary of what I think about the review:

You can’t go wrong with buying them if you think they’re pretty and you have an Android phone. If not, you can find models on our list of the best in-ear Bluetooth headphones that sound better and have more features.

If you are sure you want to buy the Google Pixel Buds Pro, you should set aside $199, which is the suggested retail price. You can buy them at online stores and Google’s online store. Important: The individual equalizers and Spatial Audio won’t be available until the fall of 2022, when the market opens. You can get them by updating your phone’s operating system to Android 13.
