According to The Verge and Windows Central, Windows 11 update 22H2 will be released on September 20.
The update has been available in near-final form in Microsoft’s Windows Insider Preview channels since May. We’ve already covered most of its major changes—Windows 11 22H2 will include new security features (and new default settings for existing features), a redesigned Task Manager, new touchscreen gestures and window management features, and tweaks for the Start menu and taskbar. It continues to replace Windows 8 and 10 UI elements with rounded Windows 11 versions, delivering visual uniformity to Windows PCs.
When will the update release?
Like all major Windows updates, not all Windows 11 users will get it on September 20. Microsoft normally delivers the update to a small number of PCs first, then progressively widens availability. Download an ISO or the Windows 11 Installation Assistant from this page to manually install updates.
Microsoft is working on Windows 11, which will be its first major feature update. “Version 22H2” and codenamed “Sun Valley 2” will continue Windows 11’s vision with new features, UI improvements, and more.
Version 22H2 work began before Windows 11 was finished, and it’s presently in testing with Microsoft’s Windows Insider Program. Frequent “active development” builds are given to the Beta Channel with new features we hope to ship in version 22H2.
Windows Central announced 22H2’s release date. Microsoft spent months testing Windows 11 22H2. The update adds programme folders to the Start menu, drag-and-drop to the taskbar, and new touch gestures and animations.
Microsoft plans to implement a new Live Captions accessibility feature with 22H2 for deaf, hard of hearing, or anyone who wishes to automatically caption audio. 22H2 includes a new Voice Access feature that allows PC control by voice.
Windows 11 22H2’s Task Manager has a new dark mode, command bar, and efficiency mode to restrict app resource use. 22H2 will also improve Snap Layouts, making it easier to move an app to reveal its layouts.
Tabs for File Explorer will emerge after September 20. The Verge reported that a 22H2 upgrade will introduce File Explorer tabs and Suggested Actions later this year.
Microsoft is adding taskbar notifications to Windows 11. Windows 11 users will get live widget notifications on the taskbar weather widget.
