Amazon announced four new 8-inch Fire tablets today, including the Fire HD 8, which is 30% quicker than its 2020 predecessor. It costs $99.99 instead of $89.99. Amazon also announced the Fire HD 8 Plus, Fire HD 8 Kids, and Fire HD 8 Kids Pro. All are $10 higher than before and delivery next month.
Aside having a six-core processor instead of a quad-core processor, the new Fire HD 8’s features are comparable to the 2020 edition. Amazon’s 2020 model is 30% faster than its predecessor. 2GB of RAM, 32 or 64GB of storage with microSD expansion up to 1TB, and USB-C charging remain the same (though battery life is now rated at 13 rather than 12 hours).
While 13 hours is fine, it’s only an hour better than the 2020 Fire HD 8. Amazon halved the charge time compared to the prior smartphone.
The new Fire HD 8 comes with 32GB of storage and supports 1TB of microSD expansion. Amazon Photos will offer unlimited free full-resolution photo storage and 5GB of video storage.
This Fire HD 8 has screen mirroring, unlike its predecessor. This functionality lets you project video, browser, apps, images, and more to Miracast-compatible devices.
Starting today, you may preorder the Fire HD 8, Fire HD 8 Kids, and Fire HD 8 Kids Pro. The $99 Fire HD 8 comes in Black, Denim, and Rose. The Fire HD 8 Kids reportedly will cost $149.99.
