iPhone 14, 14 Plus May Use ‘Enhanced’ A15 Bionic Chip

A15 Bionic

A recent source suggests Apple’s iPhone 14 and 14 Plus will use a “improved version” of the A15 Bionic chip CPU when they arrive on September 7.

Next-generation iPhones may use the Bionic chip introduced in the iPhone 13 series. Apple may introduce a “improved” A15 chip this time.

The article does not disclose any details regarding the hardware, although it has been speculated that the normal iPhone 14 models will use the iPhone 13 Pro’s higher-end A15 chip with a five-core GPU for up to 25% quicker graphics performance. The A15 chip in iPhone 13 contains a four-core GPU.

The A15 chip in the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus may only have improved graphics performance, given it has the same 6-core CPU and 16-core Neural Engine as the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro.

iPhone 14, 14 Plus to have ‘enhanced’ A15 Bionic chip

The Wall Street Journal anticipates that only the premium iPhone 14 Pro models will include the new A16 chip.

Standard choices, including the speculated iPhone 14 Plus, feature an A15 chip that has been “improved”. Standard iPhone 14 models should perform slightly better than the iPhone 13 series.

Ming-Chi Kuo predicted in March that the new A16 chip would only be in the iPhone 14 Pro, according to Mac Rumors. The Wall Street Journal report confirms Kuo’s early assertions and adds that Apple will release a new A15 Bionic chip.

All about A15 Bionic Chip

Apple’s latest iPhones use the next-generation Bionic processor. It hasn’t limited its new microprocessor to luxury cars, though. All iPhone 13 models had the A15 Bionic processor. “Pro” models had a higher-end A15 CPU with a five-core GPU for improved graphics.

The regular iPhone 13 has a four-core A15 CPU, which is 25% slower than the higher-end models. WCCFTech reports that the A15 chip in the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max is 55% more powerful than the A14 chip. The normal iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini’s A15 Bionic chip only improved by 15% over the A14 chip.

It’s unclear how much performance boost the new “improved” A15 Bionic delivers to iPhone 14.
