Google is still working on a foldable smartphone despite delays and wild rumours. This week, we learned more about the google’s foldable Pixel cameras and design language.
Google’s foldable Pixel will resemble the Oppo Find N, according to Digital Chat Station on Weibo. This includes a smaller variant with a vertically unfolding outer display. This leak concerns the camera array.
The Pixel foldable will reportedly have no camera on its inner display, just a whole canvas. Samsung has used a notch in the original Galaxy Fold, a hole-punch in the Galaxy Z Fold 2, and an under-display camera in the Fold 3. Oppo Find N sports an inside camera in the top left corner of the screen.
In Brief
- Pixel Fold design details leaked.
- The leak shows a smaller Galaxy Fold-style device.
- The foldable screen will contain a selfie camera.
This, of course, means that Google’s phone wouldn’t be able to take a photo or join a video camera from the inner display. The exterior display will contain a hole-punch selfie camera, supposedly centered.
This matches our recent discovery of Pixel foldable work in the Google Camera app. Kyle Bradshaw found evidence of a specific feature that could persuade users to flip the phone while taking a selfie when unfurled. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 leverages the rear-facing cameras and outer display to shoot better selfies, and Google may be doing the same.
Google may use 8MP sensors for both internal and external selfie cameras, according to speculations. Another report suggests the Pixel foldable will allow customers to capture selfies with the back cameras while previewing the image.
OPPO Find N-like shape reflects past predictions that the Pixel foldable would be smaller than the Galaxy Fold 3 and Fold 4. Phone may be smaller and cheaper. Allegedly, the Pixel Fold may have a disappointing 12MP rear camera, but the Tensor chip may help.
If Google skips an inner selfie cam or the quality is poor, it could explain the folding camera symbol seen in the Camera APK last week. Tapping the symbol before closing the phone would compensate for the “ultra-micro” lens within. We’ll need “official” renders to see how the Pixel foldable will look.
