Google Play Games beta lets more PC users play Android games

Google Play games

Starting today, Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, and Australia will be able to use Google Play Games for PC. It will then be in open beta.

Google said in late 2021 that it was working on making its Google Play Games app work with Android games on PC. After the beta version came out, the app was only available in Hong Kong, Korea, and Taiwan, and you had to sign up for a waitlist to get it.

Even though the beta is still only available in some places, Google eventually added Thailand and Australia to the list. Now, Google is taking the next step toward full release by removing the limits on how many people can use the service in these areas.

You can download the app from the Google Play Games landing page if you live in Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, or Australia.

In addition to letting more people join the beta, Google has also made the app easier to use by lowering the specs of the PC needed to run it.

Google says that the Google Play Games app no longer needs a GPU made for games. All you need is a GPU that is built in (e.g. Intel UHD Graphics 630 GPU or comparable). The CPU requirements have also been lowered. Instead of eight logical cores, you now only need four physical cores. And finally, the amount of SSD storage space needed has been cut in half, from 20GB to 10GB.

There is no information yet about when Google plans to release the full version of the Google Play Games app. But Google says it will keep adding new features and listen to what developers and players have to say.

Google Play PC beta requirements:

  • Windows 10 (v2004)
  • SSD with at least 10GB of storage
  • Intel UHD Graphics 630 (or comparable)
  • 4 CPU cores
  • 8GB of RAM
  • Windows admin account
  • Hardware virtualization turned on

Google’s increasing collection of beta-compatible games includes Summoners War, Cookie Run: Kingdom, Last Fortress: Underground, and Top War.

Download the beta in the mentioned areas. Google plans to announce future betas and regional availability soon.
