Google Pixel 3a and 3a XL debuted three years ago. Today is the final update for these trusty phones.
According to 9To5Google, the Pixel 3a and 3a XL will be upgraded today. Android 12L is the last update for these devices.
Despite previously announcing that updates would stop in July four months ago, Google kept the 3a and 3a XL on its security patch list a little longer than expected, giving the smartphones a small VoLTE roaming update in June and now Android 12L.
It’s easy to overlook how much the Pixel 3a and 3a XL impacted Google’s portfolio and the market. These were the first “a”-named Google phones. The Pixel 3a and 3a XL were Google’s first mid-range phones.
Google has made final patches a ritual, waiting a month or two after ending software support to fix any remaining flaws. The Pixel 3 and 3 XL were updated earlier this year; now it’s the 3a’s turn.
Pixel 3a should be lamented. The Pixel 6a is one of our favorite affordable phones of the year, but it all started with a few of spin-off models in 2019. AP’s Jules Wang did a great job remembering the Pixel 3a earlier this year. No matter how good future Google gadgets are, the A1 will always be special.
You may download today’s final Pixel 3a and 3a XL fix from Google’s website. It’s still running Android 12L, just like in May. The OTA update for both phones should arrive soon.
