With each fresh leak, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 sounds less like a smartphone and more like a tablet.
SamMobile says Samsung will offer a 1TB tablet. It’s unclear where the publication received this information, but it’s double the Galaxy Z Fold 3’s maximum space.
If a device has so much storage space, it’s great for business professionals who need to save and edit video files, photographs, and gaming assets.
Very few consumers would need a 1TB smartphone for these tasks.
Most devices with 1TB of storage are tablets, like the iPad Pro, so you can store files and apps to work on the go. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 might be an iPad replacement, and because it’s likely to be very powerful with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 CPU, it’s most in line with Pro-tier iPads.
A 1TB Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 would undoubtedly be costly, like iPad Pros.
Better multitasking and power user features than iPad Pro
Smartphone Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 A tablet-phone. Phone and tablet = PC! It’s a multitool.
Samsung understood this costly foldable was for Android power users who want to accomplish as much as possible with one device.
Samsung has released Android 12L, a version for foldables and big-screen tablets. The Z Fold 4 has a fixed taskbar for launching apps.
This taskbar stays at the bottom of the screen so you can switch apps quickly or drag apps onto your currently-open app to run two apps simultaneously. Drag a third app for three at once. You can add a fourth app. Samsung has enabled Android power users to perform crazy things on a gadget like this.
How can the Z Fold 4 be a PC? If you want a fresh interface, you can connect the Z Fold to an external monitor.
It’s called Samsung DeX, and it’s pretty incredible – you get a Windows 11-like desktop, with a start menu, taskbar, desktop icons, and all of your apps will start opening in freely-resizable windows!
That’s not all, Samsung hasn’t just slapped this feature on willy nilly, without any real care or attention to detail – you can even snap your windowed apps to the corners of the screen for quick and easy window management! Windows 11-like.
IPadOS 16 new Mac like multi-tasking would really pay against a phone
iPad OS 16 comes this fall (although delays have been speculated, but it should be worth the wait). Center Stage will offer desktop-like multitasking to the iPad with this software upgrade.
We covered it in our iPadOS 16 preview article and video, but basically, it’s what I’ve always wanted. If you have an M1 iPad, Center Stage will give it a fixed dock and windowed apps. You’ll be able to run many at once, not just two at a time.
Why did Apple alter its mind and introduce something I thought would never happen? I suppose Samsung’s pro user features on its tablets and Z Fold phones “encouraged” Apple to boost its game.
